Well, I did it. I have now ventured into the blogging world. If I hadn't planned on being away for the summer, I don't think I would have found the motivation otherwise. I think it's about time I gave into the dark side (it was either this or send out mass-email updates).
I want to thank you, dear friends, for having listened to me this past month or so go on and on about Peru, Spanish, my to-do list and my overall neurotic babbling. Your advice and indulgent listening is much appreciated, including your excellent book gifting and recommendations. Somehow I managed to stuff six books (along with everything else I brought) into only one, 22 x 14 x 9 back pack (take that, Delta Airlines!).
If you're wondering how I came to choose my blog address, don't ponder it too much - it's meaning is much too literal. You see, I have a on-again off-again, love/hate relationship with running - and it continues to both uplift and destroy me. What always brings me back are those awe-inspiring moments that often happen during a good run. *(Did someone say cupcakes?) Not to mention the fact that I no longer possess the effortless metabolism of an 18 year-old. My favorite thing is running at night - I run down the middle of the road and hear my feet fall with each step. Somehow it reminds me of being a kid, playing in the street when you know you're not suppose to. I love that. And thus, a blog title is born.
As far as Peru goes, I arrived this morning I still can't believe I'm here - mostly because I slept the afternoon away and now it's dark (so I could be anywhere, really). Traveling 26 hours will do that. I haven't ventured out into the city yet but I plan to go out with some of the other volunteers tomorrow morning. Going to lay low and try to avoid the dreaded altitude sickness until I adjust. I will try and update you all so more tomorrow. Buenas Noches! Love and miss you all already!
